Especially for the farming community – session 2

Chair: Paul Phare, Development Manager, Energy4All

Renewable Energy – local ownership = local benefit. The potential for a linked network of onshore wind turbines in the north east of Scotland – a workshop exploring the findings of a Scottish Enterprise funded scoping and feasibility study.

Scottish Enterprise have been examining the feasibility, nature and possible scope of a regional wind farm network under similar principles to the WinGen concept, i.e. that wind farms should not be owned and operated by large corporate interests but by the rural landowners and communities that co-exist with the wind turbines in the landscape. Such an ownership structure is thought to maximise the benefits from the windfarm to the local economy while supporting local stakeholder interests both statutorily in terms of planning and socially in terms of acceptability. This workshop will outline the findings of the study to date and seek feedback from the seminar participants on the recommendations for the way forward.

The session will be led by Energy4All and the Laurence Gould Partnership who are undertaking the work for Scottish Enterprise, and conclude with a panel question and answer element involving all contributors.
