The client is active in the field of offshore wind energy. The company is currently developing a new concept for offshore wind power plants together with a reputable network of key partners in the industry. The concept includes differentiating designs for the rotor, nacelle, support structure and electrical system. This holistic approach, covering the full life cycle of all components, will result in significant cost savings compared to current technologies. The team consists of experienced individuals from the wind industry comprising engineering, project development, supply chain management and commercial management.
Position description
You will be responsible for the aero-elastic simulation of the turbine and load reduction by optimising design and control strategy. You will have a strong interface with the support structure design team. The loads engineer is part of the mechanical team and reports to the Team Leader Mechanical Engineering.
Tasks and responsibilities
Perform load studies by using aero-elastic codes
Tune loads by optimising designs and control strategies
Responsible for obtaining loads certification; cooperate with certification authority
Produce and maintain loads documents
Cooperate with other technical disciplines in the organisation
Manage related work packages outsourced to contractors
Education
Advanced degree (MSc) in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or in a closely related discipline
Working experience
5+ Years of relevant working experience
Fundamental knowledge of aerodynamics
Extensive knowledge of (wind turbine) system behaviour
Personal skills
Good organizational and communication skills and be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers
Self-starter and pro-active problem solver
Software skills
Experience with BLADED, Flex5 or similar software
Experience with MatLab, Mathematica, or similar
Language skills
Good command of business English, written and spoken
Command of German language is beneficial
