UK’s largest renewable energy show opens in a week’s time! 13/05/2010

It’s big, busy and as a result, bound to be buzzy and, with good reason, has been described as “the AGM of the renewable energy world”…… All-Energy 2010, the tenth in the annual series, opens in a week’s time on Wednesday 19 May at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and is the largest renewable energy exhibition and conference ever held in the UK. There are over 450 exhibiting companies from 16 countries (filling 25% more space than All-Energy ‘09) and registrations are coming in thick and fast.

“Over 6,000 have registered from home and overseas, and as there is still a week to go and many more people will register, it is certainly going to be a busy two days!” says Event Director, Jamie Thompson. “The conference too is the largest ever held alongside the major exhibition with well over 270 speakers.

“What makes All-Energy unusual is not only the broad mix of every type of renewable energy, but also the fact that it is free to attend for all with a professional/business interest in renewable energy,” he adds. “Our visitors and exhibitors can dip in and out of conference sessions, make the most of the business opportunities in the exhibition, and take part in the Giant Networking Evening on 19 May. It really is wall-to-wall renewables from early morning through to the evening!

“On Thursday 20 May, in addition to the exhibition and conference programme, we are staging a Careers Fair for the first time; teachers and career guidance specialists will be attending a special ‘Education Day’ event that day; and on 21 May we have two Technical Tours, available for our exhibitors and visitors, before they return to their offices and homes. All-Energy offers an exceptional package.”

Full information on all aspects of All-Energy, and online registration, are available at www.all-energy.co.uk

Looking at the conference
Conference speakers include Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment; David MacKay FRS, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (tbc); Georg Adamowitsch, European Coordinator facilitating ‘Connections to offshore wind power in Northern Europe’; Dr Eddie O’Connor, Founder and Chief Executive of Mainstream Renewable Power; and Matthew Simmons, Chairman Emeritus of investment bank Simmons and Company International (who addressed the very first All-Energy conference in 2001) – and a further 270+ other speakers, all experts in their fields.

On the opening morning of the two-day show, the Offshore Valuation Group will present findings of the first full economic valuation ever undertaken of Britain’s offshore renewable resource and report on the findings in a 90-minute session.

Throughout the two days speakers will be highlighting all sources of renewable energy including on- and offshore wind; bioenergy in all its guises; wave and tidal devices and projects; hydropower; hydrogen and fuel cells; microgeneration and onsite renewables for homes and businesses; renewables for communities in general and farmers in particular.

The vital elements of finance and funding will come under the spotlight with three sessions – one a financing and commercialising networking event, a second looking at public funding of the low carbon landscape, and a third looking at the funding of large projects.

Synergy with the offshore oil and gas industry
Other key elements such as the grid; power storage; and health and safety will all be covered; and so too will opportunities arising from the synergy with the offshore oil and gas industry – Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group is holding a session urging the offshore oil and gas industry to “grasp the nettle”, and UK Trade & Investment, working with Subsea UK, has a session devoted to subsea engineering applications in the renewable energy sector, and there’s a further session on the final afternoon ‘Lessons learned from the offshore oil and gas industry’; these three sessions – and two sessions on carbon capture and storage will certainly be of interest to all elements of the offshore oil and gas industry supply industry.

Green energy centres will come under the conference spotlight; as will renewable energy activity in a number of countries including Australia, Austria, Canada, and Italy – and the six countries represented by the POWER (Pushing Offshore Wind Energy Regions) cluster who are holding their mid-term conference and two other events – a Contacts to Contracts event, and a Skills Arena - at All-Energy; the Scottish Government is holding two workshops one on offshore wind and the other on how to compete for the Saltire Prize…….

“The list goes on and on, with over 50 conference sessions taking up more than 76 hours in total, we aim to cover all the pressing issues as well as looking to the opportunities in the near and mid-term future,” explains Judith Patten, Project Director with special responsibility for the conference. “The full conference programme is online and I can only suggest people take time to pore over it in advance to make sure they get the best out of their time with us!”

Free Roundtable Market Briefings thanks to UKTI
This year All-Energy is being held in association with UK Trade & Investment. Throughout the two days of the event The UK Energy Excellence Centre (Room 23) will host a series of free Roundtable Market Briefings. This provides exhibitors and visitors with an ideal opportunity to learn about developments and opportunities in a range of exciting international markets. The Centre will also host UKTI Energy specialists from across the globe who will be available to meet with exhibitors and visitors to discuss how UKTI can help them realise their international potential.

Other associated events include a pre-event wave and tidal workshop organised by EG&S KTN and RenewableUK; an international brokerage event; in-depth look at opportunities in Korea; the ‘Mersey marine Energy Innovation Centre Workshop’, as well as the Civic Reception and Giant Networking Evening (19 May); Careers Fair (20 May only); Education Day (aimed at teachers/career guidance specialists – 20 May only); and Technical Tours (21 May). Details on all are available at www.all-energy.co.uk

All-Energy 2010 is free to attend for all with a business/professional interest in renewable energy; online registration is at www.all-energy.co.uk. Vattenfall is the show’s principal sponsor which is held in association with RenewableUK (formerly BWEA), Scottish Renewables, UK Trade & Investment, and Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group. The Society for Underwater Technology is its learned society patron, and there are some 30 endorsing organisations including government departments, RDAs and trade associations.
